Sterling Farms Grow & Tell Field Day

On August 26, Joe and Dana Seis, members of Farmers of the Roche-A-Cri, hosted a vibrant and educational Grow & Tell Field Day at Sterling Farms in Friendship, Wisconsin. Neighbors from across the Big and Little Roche-A-Cri watersheds came together to learn, share, and celebrate local conservation efforts. The event offered a meaningful opportunity for the Seis family to showcase their farm and the conservation practices they’re implementing to protect soil and water resources.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the Seis family's history and their approach to sweet corn production through the Healthy Grown program, which emphasizes sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Representatives from Nortera Foods explained how sweet corn moves from field to food production, highlighting sustainability efforts in the Central Sands region. Heartland Farm showcased innovative technology used to drone-seed cover crops, demonstrating how precision agriculture can support soil health and water quality.

As a Producer-Led Watershed Protection Group funded by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, Farmers of the Roche-A-Cri is committed to protecting and enhancing the local watershed. The field day fostered community dialogue around sustainable agriculture and highlighted the importance of collaboration in conservation.
